In the 18 hectares surrounding Villa Pallavicino one can make wonderful encounters. Spectacular flora ranges from centuries-old chestnut trees and lyriodendrons, among the oldest in Italy, to red beeches, maples, sequoias, magnolias and the grandiose cedar of Lebanon. The starring role is played by the animals, with more than 50 species housed, many of which are free to come into contact with humans, especially smaller visitors, but also rarer and more exotic encounters, such as zebras or kangaroos.

Stresa. Villa Pallavicino

Of the many precious historical residences in Stresa overlooking Lake Maggiore, the starring role is played by Villa Pallavicino. Built in the second half of the 19th century in accordance with the artistic and landscape canons of the time, it was surrounded by a gigantic English-style garden, more than 15 hectares in size. In 1956 the Pallavicino family decided to transform the wonderful garden into a wildlife park, which is one of the most visited attractions around Lake Maggiore every year.

Stresa. City centre

As enraptured as one is by the views of Stresa's lakefront, it would be a real loss not to wander through the narrow streets of the old town centre, full of bars, ice-cream parlours and small shops. The relaxing and above all pedestrianised town centre of Stresa, located behind the pier, comprises a limited number of narrow streets around the small Piazza Cadorna, a triangular space enriched by gazebos and café tables, where one can enjoy a drink or a cool ice cream in peace.

Stresa. Lakeside

Along the shores of Lake Maggiore, many towns can boast their own picturesque lakeside promenade. That of Stresa, with its parade of historic palazzi, villas and luxurious hotels with a great history of illustrious guests and personalities, is probably the most aristocratic of all lakeside promenades. Thanks, of course, also to its enviable location, right opposite the spectacular Borromean Islands and in an optimal position to enjoy both the Borromean Gulf inlet and the rest of the lake.

Isola Madre

Anyone who thinks that the palace and garden on this island are a copy of those on Isola Bella cannot be further from the truth. In fact, this garden is unique for its unique plant essences that come from all over the world. The park is in the English style and offers shady avenues as well as stunning and unprecedented views. The palace offers a fascinating fresco of 16th and 17th century courtly life with its collection of porcelain and liveries, family paintings and four-poster beds.

Isola Pescatori (Fishermen's Island)

Pubblicato : Giovedì, 7 Dicembre, 2023 - 21:23

The only one of the three Borromean islands to be permanently inhabited, this small community fascinates with the liveliness and warmth of its narrow streets. Of the two main streets, one runs through the village and the other runs alongside the lake. On one side of the little island you can relax in the shade of the large plane trees, while on the other side you can admire the view of Isola Bella, which is only a few metres away. The church of San Vittore, dating back to the year 1000 but completely rebuilt during the 17th and 18th centuries, is worth a visit.

Isola Bella. The gardens

Pubblicato : Giovedì, 7 Dicembre, 2023 - 14:20

For almost 200 years, a large camphore has been welcoming visitors as they pass through the large garden gate. From here one faces the splendid Amphitheatre, which scenically occupies the central part of the island. The Baroque garden is laid out on terraces at different heights, alternating statues, obelisks, flights of steps and stone balustrades. The garden paths lead up to the largest terrace, from which there is a wonderful view of the lake and the garden itself.
