Novara. Dome

The history of this building is very old; a basilica stood here already around the year 350 AD. It was later destroyed and rebuilt in the 11th-12th centuries, and it too was remodelled and modified several times. Its current form is the work of the 19th century architect Antonelli, already the author of the Dome of San Gaudenzio in Novara and the Mole Antonelliana in Turin. All that remains of the previous Romanesque cathedral is the mosaic in the presbytery. Inside are valuable paintings by Bernardino Lanino and Gaudenzio Ferrari.
