Elected "Ideal Village of Italy" in 1991 by Airone magazine, Carcoforo is a charming village located in the small Val d'Egua, one of the secondary valleys of the more famous Valsesia. Nestled between mountain peaks and beautifully set among larch woods, Carcoforo is a small village rich in history and culture, whose wooden and stone architecture bears witness to its ancient Walser origins. Unfortunately, a flood and a fire have destroyed much of this ancient architectural heritage. Walking through the streets of the village, you can admire numerous sundials and small frescoes on the walls of the houses. The parish church, dedicated to Santa Croce, dates back to 1635 and is located in the centre of the square surrounded by ancient buildings.
